Music Training and Neuroplasticity

Unfortunately, for many people, studying music for its own sake is not enough reason “to justify” musical pursuits or “to enforce” meaningful musical development. (“Justify” and “enforce” are actual  words I’ve heard used to describe meaningful musical study and development).

Speculation regarding possible extra-musical benefits (to the wholesale exclusion of the musical benefits) of music study ended long ago: numerous scientifically sound studies conclusively prove that a rich array of substantive extra-musical benefits are a consequence of meaningful music study. For those who require continuing evidence of such benefits “to justify” music education or “to enforce” musical development, here is yet another:
